Sainristil initially played as a receiver for the Wolverines, catching 37 passes for 539 yards and five touchdowns. However, he transitioned to defensive back for his final two college seasons, tallying 64 total tackles, 10.5 tackles for loss, three sacks, seven interceptions, 13 passes defensed, and two forced fumbles over the last two years. He achieved a career-high six interceptions in 2023, two of which were returned for touchdowns.
CBS Sports Senior NFL Writer Pete Prisco included Sainristil in his “Better-Than Team” for the 2024 NFL Draft. Prisco praised Sainristil’s performance as Michigan’s nickel corner, highlighting his tackling ability, coverage skills, and effectiveness as a blitzer. Prisco noted that Sainristil, despite being just 5-9 and 190 pounds, plays much bigger on the field. His speed, measured at 4.4 seconds in the 40-yard dash, and his playstyle remind Prisco of a faster version of Mike Hilton from the Bengals.
In a recent seven-round mock draft by CBS Sports NFL Draft expert Josh Edwards, Sainristil is projected to be selected early in the third round at No. 71 overall. While his smaller stature may raise some concerns, his talent is evident, and his draft stock appears to be on the rise.
