With Amazon and NBC securing the league’s broadcasting rights starting from the 2025-2026 season, some necessary adjustments may be on the horizon. One of the first potential changes is the rescheduling of the Emirates NBA Cup, the highly anticipated in-season tournament.
Recent reports suggest that the tournament, which typically begins in mid-November, will be shifted to early December, extending over five weeks. This adjustment is driven by Amazon’s coverage of NFL games, prompting the NBA and Amazon to align schedules to avoid overlapping dates.
The NBA Cup has gained considerable popularity, evidenced by last year’s viewership when the Lakers clinched the title. This year is expected to see a similar surge in views, especially with the rebranding of the competition.
The schedule for the second year of the NBA Cup has already been released. The exciting tournament will commence on November 12, with the champions being crowned on December 17.
Details of the NBA Cup Tournament
The 30 NBA teams will be divided into six groups based on their previous regular season performance. Three groups will consist of Eastern Conference teams, while the other three will consist of Western Conference teams.
During the group stage, each team will play four games. The teams with the highest points will advance to the next round. The quarter-finals will feature eight teams competing on December 10 and 11 to secure a spot in the semifinals on December 14. The winners of the semifinals will then face off in the finals on December 17 for the coveted trophy.
Group stage games will be held on Tuesdays and Fridays, ensuring that all teams, regardless of their position in the regular season standings, have a fair shot at the title.
