TMZ: Teyana Taylor Filed for Divorce from NBA Champion Iman Shumpert in January 2023

Singer and actress Teyana Taylor initiated divorce proceedings against former NBA guard Iman Shumpert back in January, as reported by TMZ Sports. Legal documents revealed that Taylor officially filed for divorce eight months before publicly announcing their separation in September.

According to TMZ, Taylor’s filing detailed Shumpert’s alleged jealousy and insecurity stemming from her fame. She further accused him of displaying “narcissistic behavior” and engaging in “extremely emotionally and mentally abusive” actions. The filing also included allegations of multiple instances of infidelity during their marriage. Taylor claimed that since leaving their family home in October, Shumpert has not devoted “significant time” to their two children.

In September, when Taylor took to Instagram to announce their separation, she clarified that it wasn’t due to infidelity. She emphasized that she and Shumpert remained the “best of friends” and were committed to co-parenting their children.

Iman Shumpert, 33, had a decade-long NBA career from 2011 to 2021, playing for teams like the New York Knicks, Cleveland Cavaliers, Sacramento Kings, Houston Rockets, and Brooklyn Nets. Over 461 regular-season games, Shumpert averaged 7.2 points, 3.3 rebounds, 1.8 assists, and 1.1 steals per game. Notably, he secured an NBA championship with the Cavaliers in 2016.

Since retiring from the NBA, Shumpert has found success beyond the basketball court. In 2021, he achieved a significant milestone by winning Season 30 of Dancing with the Stars, making him the first and only NBA player to claim victory in the dance competition.
