Former NBA forward Charlie Villanueva and his wife Lala Alvarez are expressing gratitude for their safety after being involved in what he described as a “hit bad” alleged hit-and-run car accident earlier this week. Villanueva, known for his 11 seasons in the NBA and playing a key role in UConn’s NCAA title win in 2004-05, shared the aftermath on his Instagram, showcasing the significant damage to their Mercedes G Wagon.

In the Instagram post, the 39-year-old athlete conveyed his thankfulness for their lives, despite experiencing soreness in the neck and back, along with damage to their recently acquired vehicle. Villanueva mentioned that the collision occurred when their car was struck from behind, and shockingly, the other party involved decided to flee the scene.

The former NBA player disclosed in the comments that the Mercedes G Wagon had been a recent gift for his wife’s birthday, stating it had been in their possession for less than two months at the time of the accident. While not providing specific details about the incident’s location and timing, Villanueva expressed his gratitude to God for their protection and emphasized the importance of walking in faith during challenging times.

Offering encouragement to those who may have faced difficulties in 2023, he wrote, “2023 is just preparing us for 2024. So to those whom 2023 has been a difficult year, a year of struggle be thankful, and don’t give up because once you come out of the storm, you’ll see your true power.”

Charlie Villanueva and Lala Alvarez, who got married in July 2021, have become a prominent couple in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Lala, a former sports reporter turned designer and realtor, and Villanueva have two children together, adding to their already blended family.

Villanueva’s illustrious basketball career saw him as the No. 7 pick in the 2005 NBA draft by the Toronto Raptors. He played for several teams, including the Bucks, Pistons, and Mavericks, and retired in 2016. Despite the challenges faced in the recent car accident, Villanueva remains resilient, echoing a message of perseverance and faith for those who may be going through tough times.
