Blue Jackets to salute Jeff Rimer prior to Saturday’s game

The Columbus Blue Jackets have announced that they will honor their long-serving television play-by-play announcer, Jeff Rimer, in a ceremony preceding this Saturday’s home game against the Pittsburgh Penguins at Nationwide Arena.

Scheduled to commence at approximately 6:55 p.m. ET, just before the 7:16 puck drop, the ceremony will be overseen by former Blue Jackets player and current television color analyst Jody Shelley. It will feature a special video tribute and gift presentations from Blue Jackets President of Hockey Operations John Davidson and Bally Sports Ohio Senior Vice President and General Manager Randy Stephens.

Rimer disclosed his decision to retire last fall, culminating his 20-year tenure as the voice of the Columbus Blue Jackets on Fox Sports Ohio/Bally Sports Ohio. His final broadcast will coincide with the team’s season finale on Tuesday, April 16, as they host the Carolina Hurricanes. This season marks the end of an illustrious broadcasting career spanning six decades, during which he also served as the play-by-play announcer for the Washington Capitals and Florida Panthers before joining Columbus in 2004.

Rimer’s journey in broadcasting began with CFCN in Calgary, Alberta, while he was a student at Mount Royal College. He later worked in Lethbridge and Edmonton, Alberta, and Montreal, Quebec, before his tenure in Washington. Alongside NHL coverage, Rimer also ventured into Canadian Football League, World Championship competitions, the 1976 Summer Olympic Games, and Major League Baseball, where he served as a pre- and post-game host for Montreal Expos and Baltimore Orioles broadcasts.

The Blue Jackets will take to the ice tonight as they face off against the Arizona Coyotes at Mullett Arena, with game time set for 10 p.m. ET. Live coverage on Bally Sports Ohio, Bally Sports +, and the Bally Sports app begins at 9:30 p.m. ET. Additionally, the game will be broadcasted on the Blue Jackets Radio Network, including 105.7 FM in Columbus, and streamed online at BlueJackets.com.
