Bill Belichick shows support for new team: NFL coaching legend shows up to college football practice in hoodie
Belichick, who hadn’t been seen on a football field in nearly three months, showed his support for the team by donning a Washington hoodie and hat during the practice session. For someone accustomed to seeing him in Patriots gear after 24 years in New England, the sight of Belichick in different attire was quite unusual.
This marked the first instance of Belichick sporting a Washington hoodie, a sign that suggests it may become a regular sight in the future. The connection is familial, as Belichick’s son, Steve, was recently appointed as the team’s defensive coordinator in February.
Steve expressed his delight at having his father present during practice, stating, “It was cool. I’m glad he got to come out here. I look up to him in so many different areas. To have him out here, it’s been awesome.” This shift marks a change for Steve, who had previously served under his father’s coaching staff with the Patriots since 2012.
Belichick’s involvement at the university extended beyond practice as he was also the featured speaker at a coaching clinic held on Saturday. With some free time this spring, a rarity for the 71-year-old coach, Belichick finds himself without an NFL coaching job for the first time since 1974, either as an assistant or head coach.
While his plans for the offseason remain uncertain, there have been hints that Belichick may explore opportunities in the media or even consider writing a book, as suggested earlier this year by his son Steve. Regardless, it appears that Belichick will find ways to keep himself occupied in the coming months.
