NBA Star Nikola Jokic Stars in Hilarious ‘Despicable Me 4’ Teaser After Fans Compare Him to Gru

NBA fans recently sparked a wave of humor when they likened Denver Nuggets’ star player, Nikola Jokic, to the beloved animated character Gru from “Despicable Me.” Now, Jokic has embraced the comparison in a new teaser for “Despicable Me 4,” where the Minions mistake him for their new leader.

The Serbian athlete, a two-time NBA MVP, sported a strikingly similar outfit to Gru, complete with a wrap-around striped scarf, which ignited a frenzy on social media. Even the Nuggets joined in on the fun, posting a playful comment: “Going to play basketball or going to steal the moon?”

In response to the comparisons, Jokic expressed his amusement, stating, “I mean, I love the guy and I love the cartoon, and why not just have a little bit of fun, too?” This came after he led the Nuggets to a 114-103 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers in Game 1 of their Western Conference playoff series.

The outfit choice turned out to be a clever hint at Jokic’s involvement in a promotional trailer for “Despicable Me 4,” where he seeks therapy because the Minions mistake him for their leader.

In the trailer, Jokic humorously recounts his experience to a therapist, explaining how everyone believes he resembles Gru. Despite his denial of being bothered by the comparison, he comically reveals the persistent pestering from fans. The teaser culminates with Jokic confronting a group of cheering Minions outside his window, clarifying that he is not their boss.

On the basketball court, Jokic proves himself to be the true boss for the Nuggets, boasting impressive statistics with averages of 26.4 points, 12.4 rebounds, and nine assists this season. He is currently a frontrunner for a third MVP award and was instrumental in leading the Nuggets to their first NBA title in franchise history last season.

In their recent matchup against the Lakers, Jokic once again showcased his dominance with 32 points and 12 rebounds, propelling the Nuggets to a 114-103 victory.

Looking ahead, Jokic expressed determination for the upcoming games, emphasizing the importance of maintaining their performance and intensity. The Lakers have not defeated the Nuggets since December 16, 2022, and will aim to reverse their fortunes in Game 2 at Ball Arena, where the Nuggets have been formidable with a 34-8 record this season.
