Fox Sports and Amazon host Charissa Thompson has taken to social media to address and clarify comments made on a recent podcast where she claimed she would “make up” sideline reports during NFL games. Thompson, who hosts Fox’s “NFL Kickoff” show and contributes to Amazon Prime Video’s “Thursday Night Football” coverage, emphasized that she did not fabricate quotes from players or coaches but reported her own observations on the sidelines.

In an Instagram post, Thompson acknowledged the importance of choosing the right words in the media and apologized for the misunderstanding. She stated, “I have never lied about anything or been unethical during my time as a sports broadcaster.” Thompson explained that in instances where coaches provided no information, she would use her observations from the first half to create reports, focusing on areas that teams needed to improve.

The controversy arose from Thompson’s comments on the “Pardon My Take” podcast, where she mentioned making up reports when coaches did not come out at halftime or when it was too late. This prompted widespread condemnation and shock, with ESPN “Monday Night Football” reporter Lisa Salters expressing her disappointment and disgust on social media, emphasizing the importance of trust and credibility in journalism.

Tennessee Titans coach Mike Vrabel responded to the situation, stating he had not heard any reporter fabricate quotes from him. Meanwhile, Minnesota Vikings coach Kevin O’Connell, a former sideline reporter himself, stressed the importance of honesty and thoughtful communication in interactions with reporters.

Thompson, who has a history of sideline reporting for Fox Sports and the Big Ten Network in 2008 and ’09, clarified her remarks, asserting that she has nothing but respect for sideline reporters and appreciates the opportunity to work alongside some of the best in the industry.

As the controversy unfolds, it raises questions about the integrity of sideline reporting and the responsibilities of sports journalists in delivering accurate information to fans. Thompson’s clarification attempts to address concerns surrounding her comments, emphasizing her commitment to professionalism and ethical reporting.
